Investigation after man critically injured in Mosgiel crash

The serious crash unit is investigating after a man suffered critical injuries in a crash in Mosgiel last night.

Senior Sergeant Anthony Bond said police were called after a 56-year-old man crashed into a ditch in Stedman Rd about 10pm.

Speed was believed to have been a contributing factor and the serious crash unit was at the scene today, he said.

A St John spokeswoman said a rapid response vehicle and an ambulance attended the scene, and one person was taken to Dunedin Hospital in critical condition.

A Fire and Emergency New Zealand spokeswoman said crews from Lookout Point, Mosgiel and Roslyn stations assisted St John to free the injured driver.

The crash occurred near the railway lines, the spokeswoman said.
