Visiting beautiful places around Dunedin has been made easier with the official opening of the Orokonui Lagoon Walk this weekend.

It is a celebration of a four-year Blueskin Bay project to build a loop track around the estuary.

The estuary is a Department of Conservation Scenic Reserve, and the track is the result of partnership between Doc and the Blueskin Youth and Community Amenities Association.

The family-friendly track takes an hour to complete and can be accessed from two entrances - the boardwalk in Doctors Pt Rd, Waitati, just before Black Bridge, and the other at the Orokonui Creek Car Park in Orokonui Rd.

There are interpretation panels at each of these entrances which feature a map of the track and historical information.

The official opening was held on Saturday.
