Early heavy rain proved no deterrent at a fun family Light Party at Forsyth Barr Stadium, Dunedin, yesterday, as a record 4500 people poured in, 1000 up on last year.

Acts of Kindness Charitable Trust trustees Anne and Grant Hardy said increased social media promotion and the
growing popularity of the annual event since it switched to the stadium six years ago
had contributed to the attendance.

The event aims to provide a fun, family alternative to Halloween for children ranging from preschoolers to pupils in year 8.

Strong support from suppliers and the business community meant that organisers could ``raise the bar'' this year by providing a more attractive stage area, and better sound, and the result was a great success, Mr Hardy said.

Free fun activities included sausages, face-painting, craft and game areas, as well as bouncy castles, and entry was by gold coin donation.

The trust will also offer an afternoon Christmas at the Stadium event on December 8.
