The St Kilda site has become overgrown since horse racing and greyhound races finished there in July.
Forbury Park Trotting Club chairman Craig Paddon said it was simply a matter of getting around to maintenance.
The club and Harness Racing New Zealand have been negotiating about the future of the site, which is to be sold.
Harness Racing NZ asked the public what should happen to the venue and a report about that is expected to be completed soon, ahead of further negotiations between the two bodies.
Options for the 12.2ha site include housing, water retention areas, retaining some of the park’s buildings and using the area to increase St Clair School’s playing fields.
