Man charged after car breaches fence

A Mosgiel man has been charged in relation to a  crash early on Monday.

The 22-year-old has been charged with dangerous driving, drink-driving and fleeing from a crash scene after a car ploughed through the fence of a Mosgiel house about 2.30am on Monday.

Pauline and Bill Overton were asleep in their Perth St home, when the speeding car woke them. The pair then heard an "almighty crash" as the car went through the property’s fence and hit their house.

"It appears that the driver was speeding along Perth St, failed to take the corner, mounted the kerb and went through the fence, across the driveway and came to rest against the house," a police spokeswoman said yesterday.

"Around $3000 damage was caused to the fence.

"He reversed away and fled the scene but the bumper and registration plate were left behind.

"He was located a few minutes later and charged," the spokeswoman said.

The 22-year-old is due to appear in court on November 29.
