Man jailed for assault

A Timaru man has been sent to prison for assaulting his former partner and threatening to kill her.

Brock Cameron Percey (25) was sentenced by Judge Bernadette Farnan in the Queenstown District Court yesterday.

He was convicted of three charges on January 9, including threatening to damage the victim's property with intent to frighten her.

The offending occurred in the resort on October 17 last year.

On the male assaults female and threatening to kill charges, Percey was sentenced to 12 months' prison with the conditions he complete drug and alcohol and literacy programmes and undergo a psychiatric assessment and any treatment or counselling as directed and for six months' post the end date of the sentence.

Judge Farnan imposed a protection order in respect of the victim.

On the third charge, Percey was sentenced to one month's prison, which was to be served concurrently.
