Missing man's 'backpack and dinghy found'

Searchers looking for a missing man around Otago Harbour have found a backpack and dinghy, it is understood.

Southern district police have been calling for any sightings of the man, only named as Murray, who was last seen in Port Chalmers on Saturday, between 10.30am and noon.

They have also asked for anyone in the Deborah Bay area with CCTV footage that faces the water to get in contact. 

Police said the search had resumed today, covering an area from Deborah Bay to Taiaroa Head.

It is understood police had found a backpack and dinghy belonging to the man.

The search party today includes Police, Land SAR, Coastguard, Surf Lifesaving and the Police National Dive Squad.
