Murder accused released on bail

A 26-year-old woman accused of murdering a child has been released on bail.

The woman is charged with the murder of a 22-month-old girl who died at a St Kilda house on Monday.

The slight dark-haired woman stood hunched in the dock while lawyer Anne Stevens asked for interim name suppression and bail.

Crown counsel Robin Bates said bail might be reviewed next Friday when the woman appears again.

In the meantime, she has been bailed to a specified address until after the dead child's tangi and her name is suppressed in the meantime.
