Michele Driscoll will take over the role from Kate Vercoe on February 1.
For the past 18 months, Ms Driscoll has been assistant manager of the market.
"I’ve been stepping in when Kate has been taking leave, or duty managing at the market when she’s not there as well.
"I’ve had a good taste of it so far, and I’ve been getting as much information out of her as I can, by watching and learning.
"They’re big shoes to fill because Kate’s been here seven and a-half years, and she’s definitely left a legacy.
"I’m looking forward to it. I think it will be a really good challenge."
Ms Driscoll had worked in television production and advertising for about 20 years before joining the Otago Farmers Market team.
"This new role has the challenge of putting on a new event every week, and that to me, is the same as working in television production.
"I’ve also got a love of food. I grew up on a dairy farm, and my auntie and uncle had a kiwifruit orchard and market garden where I worked through the school holidays.
"So I’ve got a feel for food production, and an interest in where our food comes from and making sure it’s as healthy as possible."
She said she had initiatives to further develop the market which she wanted to share with the board, but it was still too early to share the ideas.
"At the moment, I’m just keen to get my feet under the table and carrying on business as usual.
"Hopefully, it won’t be as challenging as this last year, with Covid and everything."
