A group of young Sri Lankan children are all dressed up to get ready to perform for Sri Lankan new year celebrations at the Sargood Centre, Logan Park, yesterday.

About 100 people were at the event.

The new year will be officially celebrated in Sri Lanka tomorrow.

The Sinhala and Tamil New Year marks the transition of the sun from Meena Rashiya to Mesha Rashiya, signifying the end of the harvest season and bringing communities together for traditional rituals, games and feasts.
