Night out turns bad for Dunedin man

An evening out with friends went from bad to worse for a 20-year-old Dunedin man when he was arrested after allegedly assaulting another man in the Octagon, and was then charged with drink-driving when he tried to drive home from the police station.

Sergeant Matt Scoles, of Dunedin, said the man was first apprehended outside a bar in the Octagon following a ''misunderstanding over a hat'' with a 24-year-old Dunedin man.

The 20-year-old was charged with assault and released by police.

The man then attempted to drive home but he was pulled over by police.

Sgt Scoles said the man blew ''a high reading'' and was charged with driving with excess breath-alcohol.
