No prosecution for selling fireworks early

A Dunedin supermarket will not be prosecuted for selling fireworks early.

Countdown Mailer Street in Mornington sold a packet of packet of sparklers on Sunday.

The Environmental Protection Authority allows retailers to sell or display fireworks for four days before and including Guy Fawkes Day.

The period this year began on Wednesday and ends on Saturday.

A WorkSafe spokesman said WorkSafe was notified of the "minor breach''.

``We are confident that this situation has been rectified and will be taking no further action.''
