No Winery Tour for Dunedin

The Winery Tour will bypass Dunedin next year because Forsyth Barr Stadium is unavailable. promoter Campbell Smith says.

Mr Smith said the 2014 tour was bypassing Dunedin because the Otago University Students' Association (OUSA) had booked the stadium on the event's preferred dates.

''Orientation is on at the time and any available day we had, we couldn't get in,'' Mr Smith said.

He hoped the tour would return to the stadium in 2015.

''We definitely don't want to abandon Dunedin. It was just simply availability.''

When the tour stopped at Dunedin in February he called the stadium an ''oasis'' because he had spent years trying to find a Dunedin venue that worked and the stadium had everything necessary.

''I loved it. It was a great show, a great crowd and a great place to play but I can't play there if it's not available.''

The 2014 tour, which features the Exponents, Stan Walker and Breaks Co-op, stops at Anderson Park, in Invercargill on February 20, and at Waitiri Creek, in Gibbston the next day.

OUSA Events and Communications manager Dan Hendra said Orientation Week had been held at the stadium the past two years and next year the first event was on February 17. The final event on February 22 would be the Highlanders v Blues Super 15 rugby fixture.

''We have a multitude of events on during Orientation Week, including the Hypnotist, top Kiwi comedians, and a number of music nights with national and international acts.''

The initial line-up for the week would be released in December, Mr Hendra said.

''All events, apart from the toga party are open to the public, and we're confident the line-up will make for another awesome week of entertainment for students and Dunedin residents.''

Mr Hendra said OUSA aimed to hold events that brought together students and Dunedin residents.
