A police officer inspects a Subaru stationwagon and Peugeot involved in a five-car crash in South Dunedin yesterday.

Acting Sergeant Richard Panting said a Dunedin man, aged in his mid-80s, was driving a Peugeot car along Bayview Rd when it ``clipped'' two parked vehicles about 2.30pm.

Acting Sgt Panting, of Dunedin, said it appeared a car towing a trailer north, travelling in front of the Peugeot, slowed to turn into Dalgety St.

``The [Peugeot] driver appears to have scooted down the inside of that vehicle and clipped two cars, which has led to another crash.''

After the Peugeot hit the two cars parked on the left side of the road, it crashed into a third parked car, and then hit a moving vehicle.

The crash investigation was continuing, he said.

St John spokesman Ian Henderson said the Peugeot driver sustained moderate injuries and was taken by ambulance to Dunedin Hospital.
