From May 15 to 25, 60 of the world’s best surfers will head to Manu Bay, Raglan, for the World Surf League.
As part of the competition, 30 of New Zealand’s top young surfers will attend as part of the World Surf League Rising Tides programme.
Twelve spots were reserved for Raglan locals, and the top nine boys and nine girls from last summer’s New Zealand Groms Series were also offered a spot.
Three Dunedin surfers, Thomas Owen, 12, Jordy Elder, 14, and Max Wooffindin, 14, made the grade.
Jordy said it was going to be good.
"Most excited for meeting the pros, and seeing how they surf in real life."
Max said he was keen to get the chance to surf with the pros.
When asked who they were most excited to see, all three rattled off a long list of professional surfers from around the globe.
Surfing NZ chairman Jimi Higgins said the boys would spend the day with the world’s top athletes, surfing with them, hearing their stories and finding out how they got to be at the pinnacle of the sport.
"I think it just goes back to all our dedicated parents and volunteers, really, who put in the hard yards to run surfing events down at the beach and our good community there with HydroSurf supporting them.
"We’ve had some pretty amazing kids come through."
