Ruby Revue member Missy Lisa performs the opening act of the New Zealand Burlesque Festival at Dunedin's Mayfair Theatre last night.

Missy Lisa, from Dallas, Texas, is one of three US-based performers who make up the Ruby Revue trio, along with Ginger Valentine and Angi B Lovely.

The trio won best troupe award at the Viva Las Vegas Burlesque competition last year.

Others to feature in last night's show included Christchurch-based performer Ruby Ruin, the inaugural ''Queen'' of the festival.

Event producer Danny Rascal, of Palmerston North-based Red Rascal Productions, said this was the third year the show had been running, but it was the first time it had come to Dunedin.

Our journalists are your neighbours

We are the South's eyes and ears in crucial council meetings, at court hearings, on the sidelines of sporting events and on the frontline of breaking news.

As our region faces uncharted waters in the wake of a global pandemic, Otago Daily Times continues to bring you local stories that matter.

We employ local journalists and photographers to tell your stories, as other outlets cut local coverage in favour of stories told out of Auckland, Wellington and Christchurch.

You can help us continue to bring you local news you can trust by becoming a supporter.
