One seriously injured in SH1 crash

Firefighters assess the scene of an accident on State Highway1 between Green Island and Fairfield yesterday. Vehicles travelling north and south were reduced to one lane while the scene was cleared. Police said a car hit the barrier on the motorway between the Westland St on-ramp and the Old Brighton Rd off-ramp. One person was treated at the scene, before being airlifted to Christchurch Hospital in a serious condition. The crash was reported about 2.50pm.
