With shorts and T-shirts just not cutting it in Dunedin's climate, Presbyterian Support Otago's opportunity shops are in desperate need of men's clothing.

Retail manager Chrissy Anderson said 95% of donations were of women's clothing, and of the few men's items the organisation received most were shorts and T-shirts.

"We have huge demand for men's clothing, but we can't keep up with it," she said.

With winter well under way and men always looking for smart attire to attend job interviews or formals, or something a bit more fun for a student party, they would "love some more donations".

Casual jackets, warm coats, suits, knitwear, footwear and even socks were all needed.

Most customers in the organisation's three op shops were students or cruise ship visitors, with the split in gender being about 70% female to 30% male.

Ms Anderson was unsure why so few donations of men's clothing came through, but said men often wore things "until they fell off".

Donations could be made to the op shops in St Andrews St, Carroll St or Gordon Rd, or to the support centre in Moray Pl.
