Three people face a joint charge of assault after an early morning incident in the Octagon, Dunedin.
Senior Sergeant Steve Aitken said a 16-year-old boy, a 25-year-old woman and a 26-year-old man would appear in the Dunedin Youth Court tomorrow.
A woman in her 20s and a 40-year-old man received minor injuries in the incident, which happened outside the Ra Bar and Cafe about 3am yesterday, during an altercation between a group on the footpath and a group in a car. The people in the car allegedly assaulted the victims.
The 26-year-old man was also charged with assault with a weapon after a bottle was thrown during the fracas.
Snr Sgt Aitken said the assault appeared to be "completely outrageous behaviour".
He was "pretty sure" these sorts of assaults would not happen if bars were not open at that hour.
• Police are investigating the assault of a 20-year-old man, allegedly punched in the face by someone in a group of about 10 people in Moray Pl, Dunedin, early on Sunday.
Police said the man was taken to hospital for treatment about 1am, after he was knocked unconscious outside Centrefire McCarthys Stream and Field Store.
• Dunedin detectives are investigating a robbery in Cargill St about 1am on Sunday. Snr Sgt Aitken said a man reported two unknown males entered his house in the middle of the night, pointed a gun at him and demanded cash.
They left after the man gave them money.
• Snr Sgt Aitken said two boxes of Jaegermeister were stolen in a smash-and-grab raid at Super Liquor, Mosgiel, at 1.42am on Sunday.
The incident was caught on security cameras, and police are looking for a young male Caucasian, who was wearing a black hoodie with a white circular pattern on the front.
