Heads will be rolling as "Jafas" John Key and Phil Goff race down the world's steepest street to raise money for the Taieri Parents Centre.

Six celebrity faces, including the nation's prime minister and opposition leader, have been painted on to polystyrene balls and will be racing down Dunedin's Baldwin St next Friday.

The Jafa - or "just another famous Aucklander" - roll-off will be a supporting act for the day's main event, the annual Jaffa Race, in which 30,000 giant jaffas are set free at the top of the hill.

Children at the parents centre created the celebrity polystyrene Jafas.

Seven-year-old Maigan Fright, of Mosgiel, knew who the Prime Minister and "the man who wanted to be prime minister" were, but she was not too sure who Howard Dobson - a TV3 presenter - was.

The other Jafas are former All Black Jonah Lomu, model Rachel Hunter and TV3 presenter Paul Henry.

Parents centre president Judy Baines said the parents centre would write to each Jafa, asking if they would like to put a bid in a silent auction to "have their head back" at the end of the race.

The parents centre was involved with the Jaffa Race last year and the fundraising allowed it to finish and move into its new home in Mosgiel.

It keeps $2 of every ticket it sells for the Jaffa Race and this year is aiming to launch a positive-parenting programme.
