Police catch 30 speeding

Police have issued about 30 speeding tickets and caught one driver travelling 42kmh over the speed limit during the first two weeks of an operation targeting speeders on State Highway 88 between Ravensbourne and Port Chalmers.

Senior Constable Marty Van Elst said the campaign was the result of numerous complaints about vehicles speeding in the area, in particular heavy vehicles.

It would be an ongoing campaign.

The 28-year-old man caught travelling 42kmh over the speed limit had his licence suspended for 28 days.

It was a timely reminder for motorists to watch their speed, particularly with the inclement weather over recent days, Snr Const Van Elst said.
