Police have apprehended a teenager following a a petrol drive-off in Dunedin and a pursuit through Waikouaiti and Palmerston this morning.
They told the Otago Daily Times the 18-year-old man was picked up in Kurow at about 1pm today.
Police confirmed he had been driving a stolen car and was on the phone to them as officers pursued him north from Dunedin.
He will appear in Dunedin District Court tomorrow on charges likely to include unlawful taking of a motor vehicle, theft and driving charges.
Senior Sergeant Craig Brown said the pursuit began after the driver didn't pay for petrol at a Mobil service station in Anzac Ave about 9.45am.
He was pursued by the commercial vehicle investigation unit and police from Waikouaiti and Palmerston.
However, this was called off near Palmerston at 10.15am because of what Snr Sgt Brown said was "the manner of driving''.
The Nissan Tino station wagon, registration EJG554, was stolen from a Maitland St property on Monday morning.
