Police following leads to hit-and-run cyclist

Dunedin police say they are following several leads after a cyclist injured a young boy in a hit-and-run this week.

A police spokeswoman said officer-in-charge Acting Sergeant Steven Wykes and two other officers were working to  determine the identity of the man involved.

"We’re working on a few leads and will have an update early next week."

The incident left 3-year-old Jaxxyn Scott covered in tyre marks and his leg broken in two places.

His aunt Samantha Scott said after knocking the boy over, the cyclist unleashed a torrent of abuse before riding off up John Wilson Ocean Dr.

The cyclist was described as between 30 and 40 years old, 170cm-175cm tall, with grey/white hair and a beard of the same colours, wearing an orange/yellow top, orange/brown shorts, white shoes and riding a red/orange mountain bike.
