A warrant has been issued for Dylan Jordan Hill (19), after violence flared between the Black Power and Mongrel Mob gangs in Pine Hill yesterday afternoon.
During the incident a 43-year-old man suffered a gun shot wound in his arm.
Mr Hill is described as being of medium build with black hair, and about 174cm tall. He has a distinctive bull-dog tattoo on the left side of his face.
Detective Sergeant Chris Henderson said Mr Hill was considered dangerous and people should not confront him if they see him but contact their nearest police station.
"It is possible that Mr Hill is still in the Dunedin area," he said.
In yesterday's incident members of the Mongrel Mob and Black Power started fighting in Allenby Avenue.
During the incident a vehicle parked outside the property was damaged. Police believe that a number of shots were fired during the altercation, possibly from a hand gun or .22 rifle.
The Armed Offenders Squad was called to the address.
Eight people were arrested and they will appear in the Dunedin District Court.
