Police seek Vogel St defecator

Police are searching for the French woman who defecated in a Dunedin street as the French embassy asks tourists to ''display good manners''.

Police had received a formal complaint about a woman allegedly defecating in a Vogel St gutter about 8.30am on Sunday.

They were aware of the security camera footage of the act, a police statement said yesterday.

Police were making inquiries to find the white camper van and its occupants.

A post on a social media page reported the van was parked in Palmerston yesterday.

A spokesman for the French embassy in Wellington asked tourists to ''display good manners''.

''Tourists, regardless of their nationality, are expected to obey New Zealand laws and regulations, apply common sense and display good manners,'' the spokesman said.
