Staff at a Dunedin furniture store are facing a clean-up this morning after a car crashed through the shop window last night.McKenzie and Willis manager Kathleen Thickpenny said glass was strewn down the street when she arrived following the incident.

The car had left the scene and she believed police were unable to locate the driver.

Contractors working on the large window said repairs were likely to cost in the vicinity of $8000 to $10,000.

A police media spokeswoman said it appeared a white Honda Civic lost control rounding a corner from Crawford St into Police St and crashed through the window about 9.50pm.

The empty car was found by police "around the corner'' in an "undriveable state'', she said.

The driver has not been accounted for.

A report to police also mentioned the car had run a red light moments before the crash.
