With principal appointments made for the new merged schools in South Dunedin, four principals are now pondering their futures.
Macandrew Intermediate principal Whetu Cormick has been given the top job at Bathgate Park School - the school created by the merger of Forbury and Macandrew Intermediate - and Brockville School principal Ben Sincock has been appointed principal of the proposed Otepoti South School - the school created by the merger of Caversham, College Street and Calton Hill Schools.
The appointments mean Forbury School principal Janice Tofia, Caversham School principal Mike Darracott, College Street School principal Gary Tenbeth and Calton Hill School principal Glenda Jack are now looking for new jobs.
Mr Darracott said he was still raw from the gruelling experience, but was trying to remain philosophical.
"I'm still like a stunned mullet.
"At this stage, I have had a couple of thoughts. I would love a job at the new school. I'm quite happy to be a teacher here.
"Whether that's a possibility or not, I don't know. It would be an opportunity to support the new principal in what will be a difficult time ahead."
Mrs Jack is on sick leave at present, but Calton Hill School board of trustees chairman George Sealy said she was still looking at her options for next year. One of those options was to take a teaching position in Dubai.
He said Mrs Jack and members of the board had been left feeling dismayed and disappointed with the merger process, particularly the secrecy surrounding it.
Mr Tenbeth was also upset by the merger process and said he had no plans for 2012 at this stage.
"My energies remain very squarely on supporting College Street through to the end of 2011. I understand that there is a ministry redundancy package that I am entitled to."
Mrs Tofia said it was too early to reveal her plans for the future.
