A Dunedin primary school is pumped to get its bike track over the line after a mammoth fundraising effort.

Macandrew Bay School’s all-purpose track is now complete.

It has two loops including a 171m track with 12 rollers and a 61m scooter-friendly pump track.

Principal Nic Brown said it was fantastic to get the two tracks over the line.

It took some time for the school to secure $98,000 through grants and fundraising, including $23,000 from the school fair.

The bulk of the funding came from Aotearoa Gaming Trust, Otago Community Trust and Bike On New Zealand.

Former pupils came up with a concept design, identified stakeholders, researched other pump tracks and created prototypes.

Bike School coach Scarlett Hagan helped finish the design by collating the pupils’ ideas into a map.

"Scarlett was really good at coming in and talking to the kids about how to turn their ideas into realistic planning and made sure the track was inclusive for everyone."

The school was working out a plan on how the track would be used during lunch times and for physical education classes.

"We’re just looking forward to using it and becoming fitter and better with bike and scooter skills."
