Pupils, teachers splash out on last day

It was a fierce battle, a game of two halves, and at the end of the day, water was the winner.

Lee Stream School teacher Catherine Weir takes on a battalion of pupils during the school’s end-of-year water fight.

Lee Stream School pupils teamed up in the annual water fight on the last day of school against the school’s three teachers yesterday, and no mercy was shown by either side.

Before the battle, year 8 pupil Will Nichol was itching to get started.

He said it was the one time of year he really looked forward to because the pupils could gang up on the teachers.

He was confident the pupils would win because they had the numbers.

But principal Rachelle Moors said the teachers were fiercely competitive and believed they would win this year.

The teachers were particularly looking forward to dousing their year 8 pupils, she said.

"We’ve had them here for eight years and we’ve seen them go from being little chubby 5-year-olds into lovely grown-ups.

"We’re looking forward to having some fun with them."

She changed her tune within seconds of the battle commencing.

While two of the teachers wore swimming togs, she thought she would be well protected poolside if she just wore her raincoat.

"But the raincoat was a waste of time. I got pretty wet. There was no point trying to waterproof myself.

"I think it would be fair to say this year’s battle was a draw," she said.
