Rotary Park School consults

A community consultation meeting to discuss the future of Rotary Park School will be held tomorrow night.

Rotary Park School commissioner Cleave Hay confirmed he had received a letter from Education Minister Hekia Parata asking him to initiate the community consultation process, after he recommended the school be considered for closure because of low pupil numbers.

Staff, parents, whanau and interested wider community members will be given an opportunity to ask questions about the closure process during the meeting at the school, and will be given information about making submissions to the commissioner on the school's future.

A letter outlining the situation was distributed to all staff and parents yesterday, Mr Hay said.

"The opportunity to make submissions is open until Friday, March 23, with a Commissioner Report due by March 30 for the minister's consideration.

"She will then determine further steps and direction for the school," he said.
