Matariki marks the Maori New Year and pupils and whanau gathered at the school for kai and activities such as making kawakawa balm, kapa haka and music. Whakaruruhau managing director Hinekura Lawson-Candelaria said it was a chance to evaluate progress on "the dreams we have put together".

"Beneath the air of festivity, Matariki is a time for us to remember those who have passed away since Matariki last year and to reflect and plan and dream the dream for the next year."
