School run for fire truck

Tahuna Intermediate pupil Brandon Cleaver (12) and his two mates Jonathan (12) and Tremain Richmond (11), got a ride to school in a fire engine yesterday, after Brandon won a New Zealand Fire Service fire safety competition.

Roslyn Fire Station station officer and event organiser Mike Harrison said Brandon was one of many children around the city who went into a draw for the ride, after correctly answering a fire safety question on Channel 39 recently.

``It was all part of our fire safety promotion.

``It's pretty rare that we take kids for a drive in the fire truck. They had a great time.

``It was something a bit different for us as well - quite good fun.''
