They are the names of Logan Park High School's four bands or solo acts competing in the event, and it is thought to be the most bands from one school to perform in the Otago regional final in the event's 22-year history.
The event was founded in 1988 by music teachers Glenn Common and Peter Rainey, of Nelson.
Mr Rainey said he could not recall a school having so many representatives in the Otago final.
"It's very encouraging and it's a reflection of how well that school's music department is going," he said.
The four Logan Park High School groups will be among 14 which will set the stage alight at the University of Otago Union Hall tonight in the Smokefreerockquest 2010 Otago regional final play-off.
Mr Common said the event gave school bands a realistic taste of live performance, according to a formula which would be replicated in 24 other regional centres around New Zealand during the winter.
And it would not be just the judges who would have their eyes on the bands, he said.
"This year, I've noticed that we are getting representation from almost all schools in many areas, and the teachers are coming along to support their students and often to assess their performance for NCEA.
"There's no doubt that entering this event enhances a band's performance. We notice significant improvement with bands that have entered for two or more years and it's often bands with several years of Smokefreerockquest experience that make it to the national final," he said.
All 14 bands will be hoping the Smokefreerockquest experience will propel them to fame and fortune, in a similar way the event has done for well-known New Zealand bands such as Midnight Youth, Opshop, Evermore, Ladyhawke, Die!Die!Die!, The Feelers, The Black Seeds, Nesian Mystik, Bic Runga and Elemeno P.
Two finalists and a People's Choice winner from the Otago region will go into a selection pool for the national final in Hamilton on September 11.
