Murray Edge (64) was last seen by the friend he was hunting with around 8.30pm on Sunday, April 19.
Police today said they aimed to continue the search for Mr Edge.
Inspector Dave Gaskin, Canterbury Rural Area Commander, said: "Last week up to 60 people were involved in the search for Murray covering an area of about five square kilometres in very bad weather.
''The search for Murray has never been suspended and on Friday [April 24] officers reviewed and evaluated the search data to date.''
Insp Gaskin said the review had resulted in ''a number of areas of high probability being identified, both within the original search are and adjacent terrain''.
''Unfortunately it is not safe for us to send in teams to search these areas today due to the heavy rain and low visibility from the weather system that is moving over the country."
Inspr Gaskin said several people, including hunters, who were known to have been in the area since the 19th, had been spoken to by police
He urged anyone who had been in the area at the time to contact their local police station.
