It follows confirmation that the health and safety regulator is investigating a truck crash that occurred on March 19, which caused driver Paul Richard Cruise’s death. Mr Cruise was the sole occupant of the truck and died at the scene.
He was a Waste Co employee at the time.
‘‘As the investigation is ongoing, no charges have been filed at this stage,’’ a WorkSafe spokesman said.
This is not the only safety issue WorkSafe is investigating involving Waste Co.
WorkSafe investigated the workplace death of Waste Co worker Lynda Kelly after it was understood Ms Kelly was pinned between a bin and a wall while working at the transfer station on May 2 last year.
Waste Co has since been charged under sections 36(1)(a), s48(1) and 2(c) of the Health and Safety at Work Act 2015.
The maximum penalty for the charge is a fine not exceeding $1.5million.
Waste Co chief executive Roger Gower did not answer calls yesterday, but has previously said he had been working with three councils in Southland to ensure transfer stations across the region were able to operate safely and efficiently.
