Sewer repaired with night work

Dunedin City Council contractors have been working during the night - quite literally - while carrying out a $375,000 repair job on a damaged sewer on Otago Peninsula.

A team of workers from Interflow Pty Ltd has been working night shifts to repair the 1.4km section of gravity-feed sewer running under Portobello Rd at Vauxhall and nearby Marne St.

Council water and waste services capital delivery team leader Martin Hildreth said the sewer - located on the edge of Otago Harbour - had been damaged by salt water intrusion during high tides.

The $375,000 repair job involved relining the 300mm pipe without digging it up. Work began on April 13 and was due to be completed next week, with funding from existing renewals budgets, Mr Hildreth said.
