SH1 down to one lane next month

Drivers entering Dunedin on State Highway 1 from the south will find traffic down to one lane for almost a week early next year.

The New Zealand Transport Agency announced yesterday a short section of the northbound lanes of the highway near Lookout Point would be down to one lane for up to six days.

A single lane would operate from before 8am on Monday, January 5, and could stay in place until Sunday, January 11.

An NZTA spokesman said the lane reduction would allow pavement reconstruction on a 100m section of the northbound lanes near the Lookout Point Fire Station.

The work was being done when traffic volumes on the section of road were traditionally at their lowest levels.

The NZTA encouraged motorists travelling into the city to use Kaikorai Valley Rd at that time.
