There will be plenty of noise at the Taieri Airport Wings and Wheels Event tomorrow as aircraft and vehicles of all types and uses go on display, in the air and on the ground.

Some of those will be gyrocopters, which one owner, Paul Barron, describes as recreational flying by the "seat of your pants with wind in your face - real flying".

The aircraft, which could be home built, could "turn on a dime" and despite their looks, were no more dangerous than any other machinery, as long as the pilot was trained, he said.

Event convener Mark Paterson said the open day, which was an Otago Aero Club fundraiser for the Otago Community Hospice, provided something for everyone, young or old.

"There will be continuous flying activity."

Vintage and modern aircraft would be on display, as would the RNZAF Red Checkers aerobatics team.

Cars of all types, including British, Australian, American and Japanese, would be there as well as vintage fire engines, stock cars, grass carts and hovercraft.

"There is pretty much everything. There'll be lots of noise."

It would be a rare chance for so many clubs promoting different vehicles and aircraft to get together, he said.
