Two women were taken to Dunedin Hospital with minor injuries after two vehicles collided on Dunedin's Southern Motorway, near Kinmont Park, about 2.30pm yesterday.
A 75-year-old woman driving a Holden Commodore appeared to be making a U-turn on the motorway when her vehicle was hit by a white van driven by a 45-year-old Balclutha woman, police said.
Southern deployment co-ordinator Senior Sergeant Craig Brown said both women were taken to hospital by ambulance.
Neither vehicle had passengers.
The road was blocked and traffic was diverted for about an hour.
A St John spokesman said there was initial concerns because the ''hygiene van'' was transporting cleaning products.
However, no chemicals were spilled at the crash scene, he said.
Snr Sgt Brown said no charges had been laid and police inquiries were continuing.
While traffic was banked up, a Holden Rodeo, driven by a 45-year-old man, was hit in a ''nose-to-tail'' by a Mazda 626, driven by a 45-year-old woman, he said.
Both drivers were uninjured.
