The stadium was an ''oasis'' for vintage New Zealand music in Dunedin last night.

Singer Anika Moa thanked the crowd for giving her an ''awesome buzz'' by dancing to the Anika Boh & Hollie song she had performed with Boh Runga and Hollie Smith at the Classic Hits Winery Tour at Forsyth Barr Stadium.

Then when she started singing Dreams In My Head, her song mustered many more to mosh, with fathers swinging daughters and little girls grooving, the singer dedicating the tune to those who got up to get down on the grass dance floor.

The crowd complimented the clarity of the sound, with a Dunedin man saying it was much better than at the Elton John concert.

Another in the crowd commented how big the voice sounded of ''small'' Clara van Wel, the New Zealand's Got Talent winner.

Promoter Campbell Smith said the tour stopping at the stadium was ''surreal'' because he had spent years trying to find a venue in Dunedin that worked.

''And the stadium seemed like an oasis.''

The winery tour would return to the stadium, he said.

Promoter Jane Torrance said more than 1400 people attended the concert to see performances by Fat Freddy's Drop, Anika Boh & Hollie, The Adults and Clara van Wel at the stadium.

The next tour stop is Waitiri Creek Wines in Gibbston tomorrow.
