In a true expression of the meaning of Christmas, Deloitte staff waived their company gifts this year and gave the money to charity instead.
Deloitte senior analyst Mark Jordan said the idea was initiated by staff who were happy to give up their usual grocery hamper or picnic set.
The Otago Community Hospice was the lucky recipient of the $6500 as "everyone's been affected, either directly or indirectly, by cancer".
Chief executive Ginny Green believed the gesture exemplified the Christmas spirit.
The money would be used for general operating costs so the hospice could continue to provide specialist palliative care services.
The hospice also received an extra funding boost from the Government.
Hospices nationally received an extra $15 million in this year's Budget.
Otago received $65,000.
The fundraising total for Dunedin's all-school mufti day also came in recently, with $9036 being raised by the head pupil initiative.
The money enabled the hospice to buy four computerised drug delivery systems.
