Street cordoned off by armed police

Ventnor St in Mornington, Dunedin, was cordoned off by armed police last night after a man shut himself in his home allegedly with a weapon.

Police were called to the upper Ventnor St address about 9.30pm after an altercation, Senior Sergeant Craig Brown said.

The AOS was called as a precaution but the man came out of the house, unarmed about 10.30pm, before they were deployed, he said.

The street was closed off, aswell as part of Elgin Rd, during the incident.

It was too early to say what, if any, charges would be laid as a result of the incident, Snr Sgt Brown said.
