The University of Otago third-year marketing honours student has won the 2009 Nestle Scholarship and Internship as part of Nestles' Fast Moving Consumer Goods (FMCG) industry training programme.
The scholarship includes $5000 towards tuition fees and research costs incurred during her final year of study, a paid summer internship, plus the opportunity to experience the FMCG industry and learn about how products are brought to market.
Miss Wyeth, originally from Gore, was thrilled with the award.
"My marketing interest has always been centred around the FMCG industry and that is where I see my future career heading.
"The opportunity to work with a world leader in this industry should prove invaluable, not to mention the fact that they are also the producers of my favourite scorched macadamias," she said.
Nestle Corporate Services manager Maurice Gunnell said the scholarship was "hotly contested" each year, and this year was no different.
"Emma's passion to achieve, and her interest in the FMCG industry, coupled with an impressive academic record made her a very worthy recipient.
"We are excited about Emma joining our Invercargill sales team for her summer work experience which will give her further knowledge and insight into the FMCG industry.
She'll learn first-hand how companies market and sell their products in what can be a very competitive sector," he said.
Next year, Miss Wyeth will complete a research dissertation as part of her BCom (Hons) programme.
A condition of the scholarship was to focus her research in an area relevant to the FMCG industry.
