Every year, OUSA asks students to nominate the teachers who are particularly engaging and inspiring.
Awards organiser and OUSA student support manager Sage Burke said the awards were an opportunity to not only acknowledge the contribution that lecturers make to the academic endeavours and future careers of their students, but also to encourage best practice among teaching staff.
''Each year we seek feedback from the students of the University of Otago to determine who in our academic community represents the very best teachers in their field.
''This year we made a change to the system so that teachers across a spread of academic disciplines were considered and recognised, to aid in celebrating our academic staff right across the entire university.
''This year we had over 900 votes - a staggering climb from last year's engagement by students.''
This year, the top University of Otago premier lecturer award went to Dr John Guthrie.
