Students offer health checks

Medical students are offering free health checks to the public at the Dunedin Town Hall's Glenroy Auditorium on Thursday.

About 240 third-year medical students from the University of Otago will work in pairs to provide the 45-minute consultations.

Faculty of medicine senior lecturer Dr Hamish Wilson said the consultations would include checks of blood pressure, blood sugar, weight and height, and lifestyle assessments.

Participants would receive a summary assessment with a "traffic light" rating for each of their health aspects. These could be discussed further with local GPs, Dr Wilson said.

Bookings are essential through the faculty of medicine's health care and community services department.
