A Mosgiel pitch is set to host some quality football as players prepare for the 2015 Fifa Under-20 World Cup.
Mosgiel Football president Patrick Howell said he was excited four teams - Uruguay, Mali, Mexico and Serbia - would be based in Dunedin and Mosgiel's Memorial Park would be an alternative training venue.
The public could watch the training sessions, he said.
''It'll be some quality footballers - you'll probably find some of these boys are already signed up with big clubs in Europe and around the world.''
The Mosgiel football pitch had been brought up to a standard which matched the pitch at Forsyth Barr Stadium, which would be renamed Otago Stadium for the tournament.
''What they train on has to be identical to what they play on.''
The soil had been cored and filled through with sand to allow a better bounce of the ball, he said.
The benefits of the pitch would remain for club footballers after the tournament, Mr Howell said.
New goals were being installed in Mosgiel, identical to those used in the tournament.
The goals, which were worth several thousand dollars, would remain in Mosgiel.
The tournament provided a great chance for young Dunedin players to see some of the best soccer talent in the world, he said.
The tournament is Fifa's second biggest tournament worldwide.
The training sessions are expected to be at 9am and 3pm but times have not yet been confirmed.
Seven New Zealand cities will host 52 matches during the tournament, which will run from May 30 to June 20.
Four teams will be based in Dunedin, with an additional three teams flying into the city for one match each.
Seven matches will be played in Dunedin, including a round of 16 clash - one round before the quarter finals.
All seven Dunedin games will be played under the Otago Stadium roof.
