Dunedin radio disc-jockey Damian Newell tempted fate by getting the Webb Ellis Trophy with the words "Congratulations to the world champions All Blacks 2011 NZ" tattooed on his left upper arm, a week before the Rugby World Cup began.
The DJ said reaction to the tattoo had been mixed.
The Sydney Morning Herald labelled him an "arrogant All Blacks supporter" but he said the "vibe" of the tattoo was "more confidence than arrogance".
His "gentle, traditional, conservative" Queenstown mother-in-law June King cried when she saw the ink because of the stigma associated with tattoos, he said.
He said his three children thought the tattoo was cool because it was "a little bit naughty".
His upper-arm started "throbbing and pulsating" when he first heard of Dan Carter's groin injury.
He said if the All Black's were to lose tomorrow he would get the "2011" changed to "2015".
