The man responsible for cutting Air New Zealand transtasman flights from Dunedin is expected to meet Dunedin City Council and business representatives today.

An Air New Zealand spokesman confirmed Tasman Pacific general manager Glen Sowry would visit Dunedin today, but said it was unlikely any announcements would be made.

It is understood Mr Sowry will meet representatives from Dunedin International Airport, Tourism Dunedin, Dunedin City Council, the Otago Chamber of Commerce and the University of Otago.

His visit comes just a week after low-cost carrier Pacific Blue announced it would fly three flights from Dunedin to Brisbane, and two flights from Queenstown to Sydney from September 1.

Mr Sowry told the Otago Daily Times last week Air New Zealand intended to "regrow our Dunedin transtasman services".

"We will keep working hard to build demand locally and out of Australia into Dunedin."

In April, Mr Sowry announced the airline would reduce services to a seasonal basis, citing soft demand for the flights.
