More than 100 households went without power briefly yesterday when Powernet crews cut the power in Warrington and then restored it after realising their work had not been properly publicly notified.
Yesterday was an alternate date for cancelled March 9 work to replace poles for 120 Warrington customers, but Powernet chief executive Jason Franklin said the company failed to update its website with the power outage.
Because of this, the work was stopped about 10.15am, 45 minutes after the power was cut, Mr Franklin said.
When Warrington residents were informed of the planned outage originally scheduled for March 9, a March 16 alternate date was listed.
But Mr Franklin said before the March 9 work was cancelled, regulations required the alternate outage date to be updated online in order for the rescheduled work to go ahead.
In this case, that did not happen, he said. The company website was not updated.
The error was made by the company, he said.
The work would go ahead, but residents could expect a new notice that gave them 20 days’ notification, Mr Franklin said.
