‘Hiroshima Nagasaki’ exhibition opens

O-taiko drummers perform at the opening of "Hiroshima Nagasaki: 80th Memorial Photo Exhibition" at the HD Skinner Annex building at Tūhura Otago Museum on Saturday morning.

The Dunedin-Otaru Sister City Society has put up a display to mark 80 years since atomic bombs were dropped on Hiroshima and Nagasaki in Japan.

The exhibition is a part of an outreach project from the Hiroshima Peace Museum four other centres in New Zealand are taking a part in.

The O-taiko drums performance was followed by a speech by Dunedin Mayor Jules Radich and waiata from the Otago Girls’ and Otago Boys’ kapa haka group Wairua Pūhou.

Students from Hiroshima and Amnesty International as well as Dunedin-based MPs Ingrid Leary and Rachel Brooking were also at the event.
